Theatre Journal Post #1
Previous Theatre Experience
My previous experience in theatre has included a large number of musical performances - both full and shortened productions - as well as minor roles in straight-acting plays. Starting in middle school, I played the role of Lumiere for Beauty and the Beast as a 6th grader and landed the lead as Marry Poppins during my 8th grade year. During summers since I’ve also participated in small, lower-stakes art camps, which put on Pippin and Singin’ In The Rain. At Cheshire Academy, I have performed with the theatre department for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Mamma Mia, Social Justice Theatre, and Cheshire Fest throughout the past three years.
Some of my personal strengths when it comes to acting are that I’m naturally empathetic, I enjoy putting myself into new and. unfamiliar conditions, and I am always ready to encourage others. Admittedly, I have many weaknesses as well, such as my struggles with remembering various things, becoming distracted easily, having difficulty reading tone, and a tendency to accidentally interrupt during conversation.
This year, I hope that taking IB Theatre HL will help me to become more skilled in areas of performance besides just acting. I am excited to learn more about direction and stage crew work, as I believe it will help me to grow more perspective and allow me to help out in many different areas efficiently. My main goal for our class would be to have more confidence in leading others during productions, whether I take on the role of a director, stage designer, actor, or any other job.
